Shea-Porter Sworn in for Fourth Term Representing the People of New Hampshire's First District

Statement

Date: Jan. 3, 2017
Location: Washington, DC

After being sworn in to represent New Hampshire's First District in the 115th United States Congress, Congresswoman Carol Shea-Porter released the following statement:

"I am honored to once again represent the good people of New Hampshire's First District.

"Today's swearing-in of a new Congress comes at a critical time for our state and our country. I know that public office is a public trust--that's why I will work every day for 'The Rest of Us,' standing up for integrity and transparency and against outside influences and special interests.

"As the people's representative, I will work to strengthen the economy so gains are shared by all, not just those at the top--everyone should have a shot at the American Dream. I will fight to make sure we keep our promises to our service members, military families, and veterans--as a former military spouse, I know it's the least we can do to honor those who sacrifice so much for us. And I will stand firm against any attempts to cut earned benefits like Social Security or Medicare, or to take health care away from New Hampshire families.

"I first decided to enter public service while volunteering for the Red Cross after Hurricane Katrina, because I knew the federal government could serve Americans better. That's why constituent service has always been a top priority for me and my staff. Today, my office door is open and I'm eager to get to work."
